When You Can't "Shop Straight", Blame VM
"I can never shop like a normal person again. I am constantly 'zoning' stores when I walk in now..."
Teaching Visual Merchandising & Display at Ryerson's School of Fashion is wrapped up for the semester, and this student quote was my very favourite on the last day of class. Although I'm not sure if I've changed the student's shopping experience for the better or worse, I know they've gained the perspective they need to succeed in Visual Merchandising. This reveals the impact of being equipped with Visual Merchandising principles: you constantly see opportunities to refresh, revamp, improve.
Imagine having this perspective permanently ingrained in your staff, where your they are constantly finding products that need re-grouping, finessing, and noticing whether the groupings are positioned in the right section of the store, A.K.A "Zoning". Not only would this correct the flow of your store, therefore also improve the customer shopping experience, but your store standards would also be more easily maintained, and your labour hours would be put to much more productive use.
Proper staff training is not to be underestimated. Investing Visual Merchandising understanding in your team means equipping your business for success.
